Transforming Massachusetts’ Early Education and Care Delivery System

What we test in The Neighborhood that proves successful, we work to scale in partnership with the public sector. Our dedicated efforts focus on encouraging government adoption of our direct-service programs, practices, and tools. This, in turn, aims to increase family access to high-quality early childhood education and comprehensive support services, while also enhancing opportunities for educators to engage in professional development.

Our track record includes partnership with the Commonwealth to operate a first-in-the-nation COVID-19 Testing program designed specifically for child care, as well as a variety of workforce development programs to help early educators begin or advance their careers.

Registered Apprenticeship for Early Educators

In partnership with the MA Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development and the City of Boston, NV currently operates the largest Early Childhood Education Registered Apprenticeship program in the Commonwealth. The program, which began as a pilot, offers a cost-free pathway for individuals to begin or advance their career in early childhood education, combining on-site job coaching, mentoring, skills training, and incremental wage increases as apprentices progress in competency and knowledge.

Covid-19 Testing for Child Care

In partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care, Neighborhood Villages provided free Covid-19 testing to early education and care educators, staff, and very young children. Beginning as a Neighborhood program pilot and ultimately serving over 120,000 people across the Commonwealth, this program was available to all licensed programs in the state, including center-based, family child care, and out-of-school-time programs.  Learn more by reading our case study here.
